OFFERING a spectrum of household appliances and furniture, the Perfect Livin expo in Penang was a crowd puller for home owners.
The Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Relau was filled with plenty of affordable options.

The country’s premier furniture and home exhibition has been around since 2008 and takes place at least twice a year in Penang.

Trade compliance analyst Edmund Cheong, 28, said the fair came along at the right time as he had just received the keys to his new home.

“I now need to furnish it and expos like this one give me the pick of the best there is in the market. I am glad to be at the expo as there are special deals here and I managed to compare the prices and quality of the items, ” he said.

Joanna Chuan, 32, was at the expo because she wanted a new mattress to replace her old worn-out one.

“I think it is time to change it as my back has been hurting lately and I realised my old mattress was sinking in. Chinese New Year is next month, so I feel like treating myself to a new mattress.”

Chuan, a teacher, said she felt safe being at the expo as there was physical distancing and ample space to walk around without feeling uncomfortable.

“The organiser is limiting the number of visitors at any one time due to the pandemic, and this is a good move, ” she said.

Mohd Ismail Shukri, 45, visited the expo to look for a dining table.

“I am looking for a larger table as the one at home sits just four. I would like to be able to cater to more people as now we eat at home more often due to the pandemic, ” said the engineer.

“It is nice to be able to compare

“I actually feel safe being here.Everything is spaced out, giving me room while I look around.”

During the launching of the expo, Star Media Group Bhd group general manager Jason Yap said the expo was a one-stop shopping experience for home needs.

“Chinese New Year is coming soon. This is the best time to shop around. We have ensured a safe shopping experience as there will be a limited number of people allowed in at any one time.”

Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran said it was important to host expos to bring different brands under one roof, making it easier for consumers.

“With all the guidelines and support system needed to ensure a safe environment, there is a lower calculated risk here, ” he said.
